History of Flamenco

Origins of flamenco

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) flamenco art is “an artistic expression resulting from the fusion of vocal music, the art of dance and musical accompaniment called singing, dancing and playing”.

Flamenco is an artistic expression that is born from the mixture of many cultures such as Arabic, Jewish, Roma, etc. And in addition to the Andalusian. From that mixture came flamenco, there it spread, becoming a universal artistic manifestation, known throughout the world. His birth is not exactly known, but it is known that the first flamenco manifestations come from parties or meetings in which dances and songs were exhibited that were the background of the flamenco that we know today. Furthermore, it is known that in the middle of the s. XIX in theaters and dance academies there was also flamenco dance, passing in the 70s of the s. XIX to also be represented in singing cafes.

Influence of flamenco in Spanish culture

Flamenco is an art characteristic of Spanish and Andalusian culture, although its cultural impact extends beyond Spanish borders, recognizing itself throughout the world. It is considered intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO and has been an important part of Spanish identity for centuries. Therefore, flamenco is a cultural and artistic treasure that crosses borders and identifies our culture, Spanish.  At Tablao Flamenco Alma we have proposed to transmit all these values of flamenco at its best expression and purity.
